What does it mean to repair?

Repair should be about both ecological restoration and the building of relationships—between people, places, knowledge systems, and institutions.

Repair requires Indigenous Knowledge and Western scientific approaches to work alongside one another without treating Indigenous knowledge simply as information to be incorporated into existing scientific systems.

Repair can also require thoughtful action towards restoration of degraded areas or areas where habitat has been lost. Repair might also mean changing practices that, however well-intentioned, may actually be unhelpful or even harmful.

Important questions to carry in the context of your own work, whether scientific or artistic or somewhere in between, are: What does it mean to repair? What does your work require you to begin or to stop doing in order for repair to begin?
