Building community

A dinner gathering with people in the arts, social science, and science.

We have explored the idea of social and cultural infrastructure, which are the often invisible relationships, gatherings, traditions, and shared spaces that sustain artistic practice, climate action, community resilience, and long-term change beyond formal institutions and funding structures.

Informal spaces of gathering—which may take the form of potlucks, community gardens, dances, storytelling circles, artist meetups, political organizing, and intergenerational exchange—are important forms of cultural infrastructure where trust, relationships, and collaboration develop over time.

We want to create informal spaces for artists and scientists to encounter one another even long before a specific project or opportunity requires a collaboration.
