Amidst global climate change, problems are often viewed at a national or global scale. However, large environmental problems may make sustained engagement difficult. When thinking at such a large scale, people may feel disconnected or helpless.

Building relationships with particular places, communities, species, and people can create more tangible possibilities for participation and care. Working locally may be an alternative to approaching ecological questions primarily at much larger scales.

We have a growing interest in sustained relationships with particular places, and remain curious about how local relationships may become the starting point for longer-term ecological and cultural work.
